EL PASO, TX – We have been informed that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has an order to conduct 100 I-9 audits of LOCAL businesses per week, and is no longer extending the period to respond to subpoenas beyond the original 72-hours. See, for example:(http://www.kvia.com/news/politics/ice-pledges-immigration-crackdown-on-businesses/686000258).
Employers need to URGENTLY follow certain PROACTIVE steps to prevent mistakes that can lead to fines when ICE arrives at your business to conduct an I-9 audit. The fines can be very substantial, often reaching into 6 figures, for what an unsuspecting business owner might consider “clerical” errors.
ScottHulse has an I-9 response team that stands ready to help you and your business/organization promptly respond to ICE audits at any time.
In addition, because we have seen the recent significant increase in local and regional I-9 inspections, and have witnessed the devastating impact that ICE fines and penalties can have on our local and regional businesses, we are presenting a 1-hour, early morning seminar for employers, to counsel you on ICE’s new policies and practices, help you understand the need for prompt readiness, and give you the tools to help your business prepare itself before ICE comes knocking on your door.
